Apollon is one of the Olympian deities in classical Greek and Roman religion, son of Zeus, the king of the gods, and Leto and the twin brother of Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. Apollon was associated with archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light and poetry. He was the most beautiful of the all gods and he was perceived as the ideal of the kouros (ephebe, or a beardless, athletic youth). The lyre is Apollon's most prominent symbol as he was the god of Mousike (art of Muses).
Many temples were dedicated to Apollo in Greece and the Greek colonies. The fisrt and most important of them was built in the 7th century B.C at Delphi, in central Greece.
