Hermes alabaster bust statue

Handmade greek alabaster bust of Hermes, the heralds of gods

Handmade greek alabaster bust of Hermes, the heralds of gods. A unique souvenir from Greece!

Hermes, also known as Mercury, was one of the Olympian deities in the Ancient Greek religion and Mythology. He is considered the herald of the gods and the protector of human heralds, travellers, thieves, merchants, and orators. According to the Ancient Greek Mythology, Hermes, son of Zeus and Maia, was able to move quickly and freely between the worlds of the mortal and the divine, aided by his winged sandals. Thus, he played the role of the psychopomp or soul guide — a conductor of souls into the afterlife as well as the emissary and messenger of the gods.

Hermes is considered as the the divine trickster to whom the Hymn to Hermes, work of the famous Greek poet and bard, Homer, was referred to.

The herma, the rooster, the tortoise, satchel or pouch, talaria (winged sandals), and winged helmet or simple petasos, as well as the palm tree, goat, the number four, several kinds of fish, and incense are among god’s most frequent attributes. However, his most prominent symbol is the caduceus, a winged staff intertwined with two snakes copulating and carvings of the other gods.

In Classical and Hellenistic Greek art, Hermes was usually portrayed as a young, athletic man lacking a beard.
