Hippocrates of Kos was a Greek physician of the fifth-century, also known as the Age of Pericles (Classical Greece), and he is considered as one of the most outstanding figures in the history of medicine. He is thought to be the ''Father of Medicine'' and he is commonly portrayed as the paragon of the ancient physician and credited with coining the Hippocratic Oath, which is still relevant and in use today.
The Hippocratic Oath is an oath of ethics historically taken by physicians and one of the most widely known of Greek medical texts. It requires a new physician to swear, by a number of healing gods, to uphold specific ethical standards. The Hippocratic Oath is considered as the earliest expression of medical ethics in the Western world.
