Tyche, Fortuna, goddess of fortune and luck, small greek alabaster statue

Handmande greek alabaster statue of Tyche, the goddess of fortune, chance, providence, and fate

Handmade greek alabaster statue of Tyche, the goddess of fortune, prosperity and fate. A unique souvenir from Greece!

In Greek Mythology Tyche was the presiding tutelary deity who governed the fortune and prosperity of a city, its destiny. She was the daughter of Aphrodite and Zeus or Hermes and she was often perceived as the cause of many unexplained events such as floods, droughts, frosts, or even in politics.

The deity appears on many coins of the Hellenistic period in the three centuries before the Christian era, especially from cities in the Aegean.

In Greco-Roman art Tyche was portrayed wearing a mural crown, and carrying a cornucopia (horn of plenty), an emblematic gubernaculum (ship's rudder), and the wheel of fortune.
